George E. Matteson: A Man and His Maps In-Person
Join Steven and Linda Kornatz from the Scituate Preservation Society for an evening of discussion about George Matteson and his hand drawn maps of the cities and towns in Rhode Island. Born in Scituate in 1902, Matteson was a forest ranger for decades, but he is best remembered as an extraordinary mapmaker who embedded the folklore of rural Rhode Island into his precise and exquisitely detailed maps. Steven and Linda touch upon some of our local history, including the squirrel shooting competition between Glocester and Scituate in 1784.
